Had a really fun day of golf yesterday, after a 1.5 hr frost delay. The greens were mostly still frozen, although the frost was off. Been a few years since I played on frozen greens - it's weird. High approach shots that land beside/in front of the green broke through the thin crust and tended to die. High shots that landed on the green tended to pitch sharply forward. The more spin, the more they would bounce forward on a low trajectory. In other words, backspin produced the opposite result!
Anyone care to take a shot at explaining this phenomenon?
Once we adapted to these conditions, we did better. But then (some) greens started to thaw and responded normally. So it was tough to score but wonderful to be out on such a great day!
