This link diagrams the issue - cost versus experience. How to best maximize the Bandon Dunes experience but keep costs in check. Our trip from Vancouver, BC is in late April.

I have not been to Bandon. If I made the trip across the country (live in SE Michigan) I would go full out on the golf and do as many rounds at Bandon as possible. My thought would be that I might not make the trip again. Of course coming from BC is probably easier so you might mix some Bandon with some non-Bandon golf and hit the other Bandon courses the next time.

If I were going to try to cut corners it would be the lodging and then the food. All I need is a warm, quiet place to sleep and some cheap eats - no 5 star resorts for this guy.
