your golf clubs?? see, i know what you were thinking there.

When's the last time you did a pre/ mid/ end of season tuneup for your equipment? I know there's a lot on the forums about everybody going to buy new sticks and the latest and greatest, but Most people gloss right over the tune up.

Today i'm doing my preseason club tuneup/check. Getting all my clubs measured and make sure they still fit me, my swing, and my distances. Local Golf Etc (not golfTEC haha) does this for 25 bucks. Driver through putter. Frequency, length, loft, and lie tests. And will give you discounts on anything you want done through them. Not bad. 25 for a current club set fitting. At the very least i'll have my numbers. A cheap way to go if you ask me.

Just $25 for checking the whole set is pretty cheap, especially if they include a frequency check. Did they check shaft alignment too?

I just got new irons last december, but had the rest checked like I do every couple of years. Especially the wedges where off: I've got a 52/56/60 set that measured 53/53/58. Still don't know what happened to the 52* - I'ld expect it to deloft when in use. Anyway, I had them changed to 50, 55, 60 degrees (the 50* now better matches to the standard P in this set which happens to be 45*). The 56* is a sandwedge featuring a 12* bounce which is pretty much. Delofting reduces that bounce too.

Had the fitting last night. Got warmed up and hit quite a few balls. We checked my clubs on the lie board and found out I needed to go a little flat. Before he bent he checked against the factory specs and sure enough a few clubs were upright compared to spec. Basically that happens as a result of use. He checked all the lofts as well to make sure they were good too. He watched me hit the driver, 3 and hybrid. Said the ball flight looked god and checked the frequency and length of all the shafts. The set still fits well, ended just a few tweaks in the lie area on some clubs but good other than that.

Just replaced virtually all my clubs in the past 6 months. Was fit for everything and custom ordered all from Titleist, so I'm pretty confident things are where they need to be, except for my driver. Still changing shafts in that and haven't found the best one for me yet. However, one thing I do regularly (as CeeBee just mentioned) is change my grips. At least twice a season. This is really necessary. For anyone who hasn't done so in a long time, you might be amazed at how good new grips feel. If you don't want to spend the money on such a regular basis, be sure to wash your grips after every round and that will extend their life some. The oil build-up can be a swing killer. I probably change my wedge grips and driver grip 3 times for every two times I change my irons. Depending on the grips you choose, you will feel a huge difference with new grips. The clubs just feel so much better in your hands, which can often translate to more confidence over the ball.

While I'm in the market for new irons this Spring, if I don't pull the trigger, I'll be regripping and having the loft and lies checked. Don't want to do them too early though while we're stilling playing on the semi-frozen tundra of winter.
