Has anyone heard this before?

I forget where I saw it, but it has been decided it was folklore. More or less had something to do with the church really frowning on drinking at the time.

You'd be surprised.

I played with a bloke back when I was in my early 20's whose idea of a challenge was to down a beer on each tee box. My guess was that he was used to playing nine. We had 18 to play that day, and he didn't make it.
