I just got word from my Fiancée that the Center Valley Club - one of the nicest clubs in the lehigh valley (if not one of the most expensive) has sinced closed and they're going to auction off all of the clubs, carts and even the Greens!!!!!

She tells me that the Auction is on March 6th @ 10am preview on the 3rd from 7am-1pm. I dont' know how you get tickets or anything like that. If you're interested i'd start by calling them. Just lettin' my peeps know. Could be a good place to snag that new set of clubs you're looking at for cheap! they're auctioning everything from the clubhouse inventory too.

It is always sad to see a course die. At least in this instance it was not a longtime local fixture, having only been around since 1992. Apparently Bank of America wants the land to build a large data center. One would think there were other parcels of vacant land available but I guess the course was located in the perfect spot.

I keep waiting for the next annoucement of a local course in MI closing. We lost several in the past couple years.

The course did it to themselves, really. There wasn't enough play to sustain it and it had to sell. It's really nice but definitely not worth over $100 at times. That's just crazy. Especially for it's location.

Something similar happened to the course where I had my wedding reception. 1 year, almost to the day, after my wedding, the course closed. It was a private, non-equity course and when the economy went south, so did their memberships. When it closed in October of '09, I said to myself, "Self, somebody is going to buy that and re-open as a public, or semi-private course, and it's going to do just fine."

The following spring, it re-opened, as a semi-private course, under a new name. They got a popular local restaurant to come into the restaurant, and from what I've heard, it's doing great. They switched the nines, did some renovations, and they were off and running. If I'd had the money, I'd have gone after it myself.

It's a shame to see urban sprawl take over activities that are more interesting to you than apartments. For instance, two of my favorite airports, Austin Robert Mueller, and Chicago Meigs Field, are now gone. Both of them were extremely handy, You could land the jet and be downtown in a few minutes. I'm guessing Chicago Midway and Houston Hobby will be gone soon, since they are right downtown too.

I'm kinda surprised Midway is still running to begin with. I always hated trying to fly in or out of there.

Hmm. The links don't work anymore.

There was a flash ad at the top of this site for a similar auction in Illinois. I neglected to click on it, and now I can't get it to pull up anymore (sorry site admin...that was me with all the hits this morning hitting refresh over and over). Anyone have any details?

At your age, it probably just hasn't started working yet. Give it another year or two.
