Hello Oobers!
I'm heading to the Melbourne area to play some of the courses on the infamous sand belt. Does anyone have any suggestions on what courses are best to play?
I hear you can play at Kingston Heath and Royal Melbourne if you're from overseas, but they cost an arm and a leg to play. So any course with a "reasonable" price is preferred.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I replied to you in my game, but I grew up in Sydney, so I can't help with Melbourne. Don't freak out at the prices there, everything's expensive. In 09 when I went back to see family, ProV's were $95 a dozen.

thanks!
i actually got approval from my wife to play Kingston Heath (if i get lucky enough to get a tee time). which is probably a once in a lifetime kind of thing.
so now i'm debating playing that course once, or playing both courses at Moonah Links which look amazing too.
decisions decisions....
i'm still open to other courses though if anyone has any ideas.

Eynesbury (out west) was a great course for around $50. The wind there was a challenge. I hit a 9 iron into a green whilst my playing partner was on the green waiting for me to catch up. He said that the ball flight peaked over the back of the green before the wind caught it and blew it back off the front of the green.
Growling Frog (north) is another links style course also around $50.
I'm not sure about the eastern side of the city.

Eynesbury looks very nice! thanks! it's getting harder to narrow it down from all of these choices.

You have more than likelly already been to melbourne ? , When your in melbourne again it pays to travel down to the mornington peninsula and play The Dunes ($70 w/e ,$51 m/w)and St.Andrews Beach $79w/e and $59 m/w) both links style courses and both always in fantastic condition all year round.

The Dunes and St Andrews Beach were actually suggested to me by someone else and I must say, I'm very happy that I listened and played those 2 courses. Playing them was probably the 2 most enjoyable experiences I've ever had on a golf course. The scenery was unbelievable and the courses were challenging, but not unfair. Amazing, amazing time and I can't wait to play there again sometime in the future.
