I had about four hours to kill the other day while I was a couple of hours from home, so I spent them on a practice green with my wedges. One thing that I worked out was how many paces each of my wedges would fly in the air if I hit them with my generic chipping stroke. My 56* will go 15 paces, my 53* will go 19 paces, and my 50* will go 23 paces. I never realized how much that would help.
People think I'm strange now because I pace out all of my chip shots. And I've gotten pretty good at getting them to land where I want them to land. The key now is learning to understand how they are going to roll once they land.
