Not sure if this will work too well, be we're going to try and organize a "virtual tournament". For the first one, the rules are pretty simple:
1. Must golf minimum of two rounds in month of August
2. Must play 18 holes per round - 9 hole rounds don't qualify
3. Best two NET scores used for your score. Scores will be added together to arrive at your final score.
4. Tiebreaker #1: Lowest # of putts
5. Tiebreaker #2: Lowest # of 3 putts
6. To keep it honest, you MUST play with another Oobgolf member to qualify that round.
7. 1st Place Prize: Bragging rights
Pretty simple, but if you have ideas that will improve this 1st shot at a virtual tournament, post it here before the 1st of August and we'll sort it all out. Join here:
http://www.oobgolf.com/groups/August+2008+Virtual+Tournament (or search for August 2008 Virtual Tour group)

This confirms it- oobgolfers are the best!
I'm in. And I'll be looking for someone in the DC/Maryland area to play with as a partner. If anyone wants to make it happen- let me know.
Will we need same partner for both rounds or can it be different as long as they are both oobgolfers?

My feeling is that as long as they are a member of oobgolf, it's ok to golf with several different members. We'll probably have to refine this as we go. For example, not sure if it makes a difference if you're hitting from different tees, or if the course rating is higher/lower, etc. If this one works out, someone more experienced in setting these things up can probably work out something that is more fair. (or we can try and do it before 8/1)

As far as different tees, course lengths, etc., if we use handicap differentials instead of net scores it may balance things a bit. Either way I'm in. Anyone in Phoenix East Valley want to play?

The differentials way probably makes the most sense as a net 67 on an easy course is not the same as a net 67 on a hard course. But...doesn't the differential way give a small advantage to the low handicapper since it uses ESC? A low handicapper has a blow up hole and gets a 9 on a par 5 but with ESC the worst he can get is a 7 I think (which makes us high handicappers jump for joy )...hell, I'm not a numbers guy and have never tried to set up something like this. So...should we change it, leave it at NET or maybe alternate every month using a different scoring process? Maybe we could do a poll and use what the majority wants?
edit: by the way, we have 8 or 9 people signed up. So if you are a post lurker, just sign up. The worst thing that could happen is that I beat ya

Just golf a minimum of 2 rounds in August (with one oob member). Best 2 rounds will be used (probably differential) and we'll keep track in the group of whose winning. I know the whole idea sounds kinda dumb, but not everyone can get together in "real life" and throw a tournament. Plus I'm sure there are people signing up that you probably wouldn't want to meet in person anyways

Well I didn't play with another OOB golfer today but it was a tournament with witnesses. I broke 80 today for maybe only the 3rd time in my short golfing career. Don't care if it doesn't count , but I had a 77 Woo Hoo. Left 3 balls on the rim and had one lipout and one penalty. Shoulda, woulda, could have been......

Not really anyway to filter out the qualifying rounds from the non-qualifying rounds in the group area so I posted more detail here: www.rivercityhackers.com
If you see something that looks wrong let me know. I'll try to update things as rounds are posted, but my real life job may interfere with that every once in a while

Ok, my website is still messed up a tad, but I went through all the scores and updated the current ranks. Sorry, but for now am using Net Scores (with ESC used instead of Gross if appropriate). Anyways, here's the current ranks.
Rank Name Score1 Score2 Total T-Putts T-3 Putts
.
1 mrtimb 74 73 147 68 5
.
2 ecss08 72 78 150 86 15
.
3 myrriah78 81 78 159 79 15
.
4 kidave 88 86 174 81 11
Stats are reached by clicking on Golf Menu>Oobgolf Tournament at www.rivercityhackers.com
I'll try and stay on top of it from now on. Note, if I show you as having no qualifying scores, and you did golf with an oobmember, it wasn't on the score card, so fix that and post something about the fix in the group section.
