Rosie Jones finished at five under par to win the seaason opening event for past champions on the LPGA Legends Tour at Grandwiew G.C. at Sun City West, Arizona Sunday.
She defeated Elaine Crosby by two strokes. Lisolotte Neumann and Jan Stephenson tied for third at two under par. The tournament was sponsored By Walgreens Corp.with proceeds benefiting Phoenix Children's Hospital.
It was estimated that 6,000 to 8,000 Patrons enjoyed seeing some of the great players of the past show their considerable skills.
Among the Hall of Fame members participating were Betsy King, Amy Alcott,Pat Bradley, Patty Sheehan and JoAnne Carner. Miss Carner, in her seventies, wowed the fans with her booming drives. She showed that Big Mamma has not lost her touch by averaging 275 yards off the tee. However her short game was not up to the same standard and she finished in the middle of the forty player field at four over par.The event was led off Friday with a full field Pro Am with local golfers and celebrities enjoying the experience of playing with the stars from the past.
Temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s made the event a success and kicked off the event with a bang.The tour has indicated that they would like to make this an annual event.
