Other than the basics like skins, etc, anyone have any interesting betting games? We play a variation of Monkey (as in monkey on your back). Goes like this:

1. A monkey is a 3 putt
2. For every 3 putt you make, you have to dump a pre-determined amount of money into the pot (we play for $.50 each 3 putt and $1 for any 4 putts or higher - heaven forbid!)
3. Person with the lowest number of putts at end of round gets the pot.
4. Tie-breaker 1 is lowest number of 3 putts
5. No gimmies - nothing funnier than to see someone 6" from the cup after their first putt, then casually walk up and attempt to bump the ball in and miss...

With what we bet you don't make a lot of money, but you definitely concentrate more when you get up to putt.

Love the 3 putt bet. Nobody ever wants to play that game with me.

I am dying to play the "world series of golf." It's Golf with poker chips.

We play 3 putt poker - You need a deck of cards

Every one ante's - you choose ante amount ($1-$5)

Everyone gets 3 cards just for playing

Every 1 putt gets another card - every 3 putt costs you $1 into the pot.

A 0 putt gets you 2 cards
A 4 putt costs $2

At the end of each nine - the best poker hand wins the pot.

You don't have to hand out the cards while you are playing - just keep track of the putts and you can deal the cards at the 19th hole.

Great garbage game

These are some good ideas. Another one that allows a person that might not be the best golfer in the group to win, is "Bingo Bango Bongo" It's a strategy game.

Just to Explain Bingo, Bango, Bongo

You must play according to honors

3 points on each hole - You can make them worth any amount you wish. $.25, $.50, $1, $5

First on the green is a Bingo
Closest to the pin once everyone is on is a Bango
First in with a 1 putt is a Bongo

We play if no one 1 putts the Bongo carries over to the next hole and than the next until there is a 1 putt & that player wins the bongo + all carry-overs

I find most good golfer dislike this game - becasue it doesn't always reward good play

They should just hole their tee shots and they'll be fine.

we play a little different:
Bingo: long drive in the fairway
Bango: first on the green
Bongo: first in the leather
on par threes its closet to the pin is one point and first in the leather is one point.

One I came across recently went like this. $2 for G.I.R. $5 for Birds, on a Par 3 you get an additional $5 for Closest to + the $2 for G.I.R. and if your game is on the Bird. The group I joined apparently started doing this instead of skins because some players were droping strokes, and it was obvious if your putting for bird because you made no mistakes up to that point.

True....and I like Round Robin for a foursome, where you get a new partner every six holes. Scramble or Best ball format, I like to keep track of the status of the bets by putting +1 or -1 in the block with the person's score after each hole. At the end it's easier to see who pays. The guys with the negative totals pay the ones with the pluses.

I sometimes use software I downloaded onto my blackberry called intelligolf (www.intelligolf.com). It has a bunch of pre-programmed games in it that you can play and it tracks the bets for you as you play.
