Do you "own" a hole?
Yes! It is nice counting on a good score in the middle of a round.

I sometimes fiddle around with the reports section. Mostly the various reports tell me I need to play better in all phases of the game. Sigh.

One interesting tidbit I gleaned was that I OWN the 8th hole at Hudson Mills. Hudson Mills is at best an average track and the 8th hole is nothing to write home about (Par three 127 to 136 yards). Depending on the breeze it is anything from a pitching wedge to 8 iron. I tend to play HM a lot because it is never busy and I can walk on and play a round in 3 hours.

In any event, my average score (25+ rounds) on the 8th is under par. Amazingly for me I have managed more birdies than bogeys on this little 3 shotter. Other than some courses I have only played once or twice, I have not found another hole that is more receptive to my erratic game. Anyone else own a hole or holes? Doesn't have to be under par (although I suspect some of the better Oobers own several holes). You can own a hole if you are a bogey golfer and play a hole near par.

Hole 2 of my home-course is a short (350 yard) PAR4. It features water on the right side and two bunkers on the await your teeshot on the left side of the fairway. The prevailing winds in the back will usually carry my teeshots to 110 yards from the green, centre of the fairway. A pitching wedge or a 9-iron if the flag is at the back of the green and one or two putts seal the score to somewhere around par on average. Not too shabby for a bogey-golfer I reckon.

I was surprised at the actual number but for the par 5 sixth hole at Dyker Beach my average is 4.8. And this is over 134 scores, a pretty good sample size!

But it's 458y which is nothing for a five-par (as Johnny Miller would say). Plus the tee's elevated which makes it pretty easy to cut off some corner. By rights I should score better than that as it's such an easy hole. As long as you catch it solid the effective playable area for the tee shot is huge, like 150y wide. If you have anything more than a little wedge flip to the green for your third then something went terribly wrong. Always a good hole to regroup on after a rough start.

Everytime I think I'm starting to own one of the holes at my home course (usually the par 3, 3rd) the golf gods will remind me that I am in fact just a renter

Wow, great question
These days I feel like I got a couple of good holes, and a couple of tough ones... but I'll have to look at my scores lately, since when i started, every hole was SHOCKING.

I'll get back to you with this Smile

I used to own 10 & 11 at Campbell's Scottish Highlands. A short par 4 (about 320 from the whites, I think), and a middling par 3 (about 150 from the whites). I had a streak of 4 or 5 rounds where I scored no worse than bogey on either of the holes.

Ok... Looks like par 3 number 6 at Buena Vista is becoming mine. I birdie'd it 2 of the last 3 times, and I barely missed birdie the other few times, this includes me sticking it 1 foot from the hole.

Number 11 Par 5 is becoming mine too, 3 birdies on that lately, and 2 very very close eagle putts, just can't buy an eagle just yet.

All of the Par 5s are usually pretty good to me lately thinking about it. Just every now and then a way ward shot can really hurt you.

I have over 100 scores at Poolesville G.C. and #11 is mine. Currently average a '5' overall. Dogleg right with trees and OB right. As a lefty I like to carry it over corner tree and if everything plays out as hoped, it should hit downslope in fairway and roll out. Could be anywhere between 230- 165 out depending on how flush the ball was hit, how much draw and wind. Bunkers left and right of green. There is a creek 100yds below green. No real concern for second shot unless I top it. I feel like par should be the worst possible score.

Wish THAT were true.

According to OOB. Out of 17 times played I average a 4.6 on the 536 yard par 5 9th at Thornapple. Kinda surprised me too.
