During yesterdays round, I had an odd situation. On a short par 3, my tee shot found the green, but well left, and above the hole. My first putt rolled past the hole, and off the green. My next shot, though with my putter, was not technically a putt, since I was off the green. I ended up carding a 4.

My question is... did I hit the Green in Regulation? If you look just at the score, and number of putts, I did not. However, due to the sequence of events, I did.

It's not a huge deal, since my GIR stats are horrendous anyway. I just thought I'd see what the thought process would be on scoring this, for stat purposes would be.

You got a GIR. When I have done walking scoring for Nationwide and LPGA Tournaments, they starting counting the number of putts taken as every shot taken after the ball initially reached the putting surface. So in the case you described, landed on the green, putting off the green was your first putt, you chip counted as you second putt, and holing out was your third putt.
