Let's see...
Driver
3-wood
5-wood
4-hybrid
3-iron
4-iron
5-iron
6-iron
7-iron
8-iron
9-iron
Pitching Wedge
Sand Wedge
Putter
That equals 14. I'd like to add a lob wedge and a 7-wood, but I don't know what I'd remove. The lob wedge would be most important since those shots from about 30 yards that need to get up in the air are the ones I tend to flub the most. I use an Ogio Kingpin bag (which I love) with a pull cart, so weight is no object.

I'm currently carrying only 13 clubs; I do not have a lob wedge and don't know if I should get one. When I have used a lob wedge, I had a tendency to blade (skull) the ball. Maybe I should buy one though since I have the same problems when hitting my sand wedge out of the fairway; I'm sure a lob wedge is designed to hit out of a fairway as a sand wedge is not. I just need to learn how to swing to hit the ball before the ground; I believe that's my problem. Thoughts?

Move the ball back in your stance and swing THROUGH the ball, leaving your divot in front of the ball location. If you aim for the middle of your stance, with the ball back a little, this will be automatic. 60* wedge is a great club to have.

When I get my new wedges...I'll be lugging around the following:
10.5 degree driver
3 wood
5 wood
4-hybrid
5-iron
6-iron
7-iron
8-iron
9-iron
45 degree pitching wedge
52 degree gap wedge
55 degree sand wedge
60 degree lob wedge
Putter
Water Ball Fetcher (does this count as a club?)
I'm thinking about ditching the 5-wood and adding a left handed wedge or a 3-hybrid.

I didn't have 14 clubs to carry before I bought a GW, SW, LW set, but now after buying the Eidolon wedge set I have 15 clubs. Now I have to make a decision of which club to take out of the bag.
I think I'm gonna leave the Driver at home from now on. I've stopped hitting my Driver a couple months ago because I was so inconsistent with it. I've been hitting 3-wood off the tee and have been consistently hitting more fairways and have been hitting it about 230 to 250 yards. That distance seems to be long enough for me; besides, I'd rather be in the fairway at 230 than be in the rough at 260; I'm a terrible rough player. The only chance at scoring well is for me to be hitting fairways; if I'm in the rough I just do not have a shot of hitting the green in regulation.
So tonight for my first round of golf with my new wedges, I'm gonna leave the driver at home to make room for the 14 clubs I will actually use.

I carry,
Dr
3W
5W
3i Hy
4i-9i
52,56,60 Wedges
Putter
Thats 15, but before I get to the 1st tee I alert my playing partners as to which club is "left at home". If I really left a club at home, the kids would get into it and put dents in the furniture or each other.

Some of my golfing buddies suggest that I upgrade my clubs a bit, I understand there are more modern clubs out there, but I have reasonable success with what I'm using now.
The Irons...
Cleek
Mid Mashie
Mashie Iron
Mashie
Spade Mashie
Mashie Niblick
Pitching Niblick
Niblick
Jigger
The Woods....
Brassie
Spoon
Baffing Spoon
Specialty Clubs....
Rake
Rutting Iron
Tracking Iron
I say if it ain't broke , don't fix it

By your list above, I count 14 clubs, not 15.

Just a few points:
I'd recommend replacing your cleek with a "hybrid". It's much more accurate.
Plus, there is no need for a tracking iron anymore. You get free relief if you find yourself in muddy wheel tracks. You may want to get a device called a "putter" to replace it.
Your rake and rutting iron could also probably be replaced by a specialty club called a "wedge". In fact, I'm willing to bet that you will love your "wedge" so much, you'll want to get more of them.
For what it's worth, I have to thank you for sending me to google some of these terms. I just absorbed a golf history lesson.

Yes times have changed. I was thinking about upgrading my Rake for a President. But since there aren't too many of those in golf stores these days. I may just make my own, by drilling a big hole in a current production pitching wedge, As you know that is used for hitting the featherie out of the water.

I remember reading a story about Stuey Ungar, who may have been a poker god, but he sucked at golf. His friend, Doyle Brunson, is also a poker god...except he is pretty good at golf. Plus, since he is a professional gambler, he likes to play for money. Ungar, on the other hand, never could figure out how to turn down a bet.
I believe they were playing on a course for some ungodly amount per hole back in the mid '80's..like $20,000 or some such. At any rate, Brunson had totally skunked Ungar on the 15, and by sheer luck, Ungar tied on 16 and 17 to carry over $40,000 to the last hole. Ungar then proceeded to hit his tee shot into knee deep water. An argument then ensued on whether or not Ungar should be allowed to take a mulligan since so much was on the line. He got so angry about the results of the argument, he insisted on hitting the ball out of the pond.
He would have been better off taking a penalty stroke.
Every time I think of Ungar trying to swing his wedge into knee deep water to save a stroke, I can't help but giggle to myself a little.

|

I've decided to add a fifth wedge -- 64 degree X Wedge -- because I'd only use a 5 wood or 4 iron every other round or so (and a left handed pitching wedge maybe every 20th round). I think I'll use the high lofted wedge many times per round (pitches over hazards, when I've short-sided myself and to fill in a gap around 85 yards). I'm hitting my wedges about 10 yds farther in the past few weeks (either swinging faster or the Burner TP balls go farther than the Taylormade Blacks I've been playing).
So my yardages with the new X Wedge should be as follows:
Cobra LD F Speed driver, 10.5*, R flex: 265 yds
Cobra LD 3 Wood, 15*, R flex: 235 yds
Bobby Jones hybrid, 25*, S flex: 210 yds
Taylormade Muscleback Coin-Forged irons, rifle-flighted 5.0
5 iron: 185 yds
6 iron: 175 yds
7 iron: 165 yds
8 iron: 155 yds
9 iron: 142 yds
PW: 130 yds
Taylormade RAC TP wedge: 52*: 120 yds
Taylormade RAC TP wedge: 56*: 110 yds
Taylormade RAC TP wedge: 60*: 100 yds
X Wedge, 64*: 85 - 90 yds
Yes Valerie putter: 34"
I'd be interested if anyone plays a 64 deg wedge and how they like it.

Maybe it's one of the reasons I don't score any better than I do, but I only carry 10 clubs. I use a pitching wedge that came with an old pawn shop set. I use the same wedge for everything 75 yards and closer, including sand. It's my second best club after the driver.

I will actually be playing a few rounds with only 10 clubs. I had some other things to pack in my golf bag for a flight and didn't want to incur the "overweight" fee, so I left my 3,4,5 irons at home. It shouldn't be too big a problem, since I have trouble with those irons, and am looking to replace them with hybrids eventually.
My bag will be:
Driver
3W
6-9I
PW, SW, GW
Putter
