We used to have a local rule in my league For OB & lost balls where you could drop where the ball was lost or OB & take 2 strokes for penalty - one for stroke & 1 for distance - people hated that rule and it wound up being eliminated.

I always thought it was interesting that the guys that argued the hardest not to use the true stroke & distance rules in the league because of speed of play - didn't like that rule either - even though it didn't slow play.

the 2 stroke leqague rule is not a rule of golf but it better approximates what your score should be if you had been playing stroke & distance.

The only problem with the 2 stroke penalty rule is most people don't estimate where they went OB accurately. You know as well as I do we all hit the ball 30 yds. further in our minds than in reality. And we always get past the tree or left of the tree. Never right behind the tree and OB WAY BACK THERE.

Ive began following the rules explicitly saturday and today when I was on a rock and decided to just hit my 9 off of it. It has a little scratch but it was worth it. I shot a legit 78 between saturdays and todays round.
