With regard to my previous posting Four Putt!!!--I found myself in almost the exact same situation but just off the green, sloping away from me. I was fairly aggressive with a chip, rolled it just three inches to the side of the hole, but it went 14 ft past. Two uphill putts for a bogey, which for some reason was much more satisfying than four putting for a double bogey.
Secondly, about driving distances. I was golfing with a walk-on partner, who hit a nice drive on the 14th hole that he insisted was "at least 250 yards." I hit a decent drive just after him, which he claimed went 225. When we got to the fairway, his ball was about 5 yards ahead of mine. I don't have gps, but I later plotted the position of the drives on Google Earth--his was about 210, mine 205. It would be impossible to hit a 250 yard straight drive on that hole, because of a dogleg. So much for his estimate of driving distance.
Lastly, is it crass to take a swing trainer on the course? I get off rhythm more than anything, and it seems a few swings with a pronator or a medicus might help get me back on track during the round, but I don't want to be ridiculous. I assume it would count towards my 14 club total.
