After last night I really feel that some of my goals are in reach for this season, not only consistently breaking 100 but getting down to the low 90's high 80's. One thing I do have to do is start spending time on my short game, hopefully that will happen at Friday's lesson. 5/14/09
The key to my swing is to keep it slow with good pace, when I do that I get the turn in my body, and I can snap the wrists through the ball producing a solid feeling straight ball. 5/14/09
Another great range session yesterday, I set up another lesson for Friday the 29th for what I am calling a check up, I was really hitting the ball well yesterday straight or at least acceptably off line for me. At the end they were mostly straight. 5/14/09
One thing I will say about the lesson is that you have to trust your teacher completely, when I went in to watch my video and he said that we are going to change everything the first thought that popped into my head was 'Oh No' there goes the whole season working on a complete change, the second thought that went through my mind was how much worse can it be, you have been playing for 10 years or so and haven't really shown any improvement, so why not. Seeing my shots on that last bucket of balls last night I actually saw improvement for the first time in all those years. 5/12/09
Last night after my range session I challenged a friend of mine (15 cap) to a match he is giving me 9 strokes total for 18 holes, I know it is a lofty goal and I will probably get killed, but I want to take a reading on how I am doing and I have to start somewhere. I figure I am giving up 6 strokes cap vs cap, so as long I don't lose 7 and 6 I am doing OK, if I can stay in it until 16 or 17 I will be happy. 5/12/09
Now this was after quite a few buckets so I am hoping when I hit the range Wed, I still have the same consistency in my swing. I will probably go back to Mike aroudn the end of the month for a 'check up' and if I am progressing well in his eyes, hopefully a chipping lesson as well. 5/12/09
For the last two rounds I played I could not get both the weight transfer and the wrist snap in the same swing, for a while I was just taking a half backswing and snapping my wrist through the ball, I was amazed at how pure the ball flew with my irons, and how far they went. Yesterday I slowed everything down, stopping at the top of my swing, to make sure my weight was on my back foot, the club was facing the correct direction, then swung through the ball. Slowly I worked on making this all one motion. As I did this I kept my tempo nice, slow and steady making sure that my wrist snapped as I came through. I still have a slight fade, but it is coming back to right about where I was aiming. Once in a while I get a push, but the slice seems to be going away. 5/12/09
I took my first lesson from Mike Carricato on April 29th while my scores since then have not indicated much of an improvement, I am striking the ball much better. Yesterday at the range I hit four buckets of balls while working really hard on the change to my swing that Mike and I talked about. We pretty much rebuilt my swing from the ground up. My grip was too strong, it is now really neutral to a little weak, my take away used to be straight back leaving my club face pointing skyward instead of to the front of me, he has me opening the club face when I bring the club back. I had no wrist snap when I came through he showed me how to do that properly. My set up was too close to the ball and not relaxed at all he also fixed that. Finally he worked on my weight transfer so I put some weight on the back foot. 5/12/09
I think you need to make an adjustment on your last score. Check hole #9. You scored it as an ACE but went OB and a one-putt. 4/8/09
short game goals: Putting under 2.15 next year. work on 6 in 6 drill (start with 3 in 3) 10/22/08
Going along with goal 1: Build bag to fill in gaps for white tees is 5 wood needed would I be better off with a gap wedge, maybe a two iron, the two hybrids keep them and play them or sell them? 10/22/08
Scoring goals: Improve GIR to 30% Improve Fairways hit to 50% or better post August No rounds over 105 before August No round over 100 after August Break 90 at least once 10/22/08
Goals for next year: 1. Accurate club distances - I use driver or 3 wood off tee, then 4 iron if I have a long way to go, 7 iron from around 200 in and PW from 175, SW from 150, LW from 125, what about 5I, 6I, 8I, 9I they have to be used for something. 10/22/08
