Nairobi quick link: www.oobgolf.com/groups/DGHSM+Society A league of gentlemen golfers 19 members 88.3 average score 12.1 average handicap Mike Gebremedhin says:bob - sorry for the late reply. hardly check oob anymore since i hardly play golf anymore :( i am not sure about scores but there are a lot of sites that will keep tee times for you (and should be able to be shared with others). i used to use teetimes.com (i think). 1/27/13
keatsbob3 says:
Yo Yo, apologies for the silence. Question, have any of you used a good golf site where I can post tee-times,pairings, have a message board, and allow keep track of stapleford points? Think I need something a bit more complex than Oob. Greetings from Green Lusaka. 12/9/12
dodgychipper says:Hey Mikey, best of luck man and can't believe the timing of you leaving as i am about to arrive (still not confirmed), theoretically beginning of August. Take care and want to see you soon. 7/2/12
Mike Gebremedhin says:That's right Mick. Moving next door to those dudes. We'll be in Phnom Penh starting in July. Come and visit! 5/21/12
Mike Gebremedhin says:Damn it! Dislodged from the top of the leaderboard!! And because dodgy is moving to Nairobi, I'm moving to Asia. This continent isn't big enough for the both of us. However, I'm desperately sad to be leaving behind courses that I believe to be the best in the world...South Africa. Don't believe it? Check out these photos: bit.ly/JTrBLU 5/8/12
dodgychipper says:dodgychipper, learnt something in NBO in the past ten days (thanks Mikey) as on return to Colombo I can both chip and putt!! Caddie gave brillianjt lines yesterday, but today was all alone with cross-eyed cadie, and still holed a few. Have decided not to sell the clubs and take up tennis and will continue to try. For anyone bored enough to look at my stats today I missed a bunch of fairways but with the exception of two, i was only 1 - 2 feet off. Best round for at least 6 months and maybe 12 months. For those who dont know I am moving to NBO in July! 5/6/12
Marcus Prior says:Gents - I wish to introduce the newest member of our group, Mr Simon Hacker (no terrible puns please). Simon was kind enough to introduce me to the delights of the Islamabad Club (and steal our match at the last) and is a proper gentleman golfer. Already making plans to join us on the 2014 Tour.... 3/17/12
Marcus Prior says:Yes - piles of snow and flight delayed out by a couple of days. Apparently there is a 9-holer there with browns (and UXOs) so will have to play on another (warmer) visit... 2/16/12
Mick van Hasselt says:yeah, it seems that the locations of lesser know courses are not always that good, or even known. Guessing there was too much snow in Kabul for a game of golf? 2/13/12
Marcus Prior says:Mick - it doesn't recognize fact I played Pyongyang! And now in Kabul wondering if i'll get a chance to play the muddy, oily 9-holer... 2/5/12
Mick van Hasselt says:This should be fun, if it works..... oobgolf.com/content/help/1-3352-Mapping_Your_Gol 2/3/12
Mike Gebremedhin says:it's a tribute to how little our top players are putting in scores that alex and i are populating the top of the leaderboard. let's enjoy it while it lasts bwana andrewes! 1/25/12
sheppardtoddowen says:Mikey - best you find a jobbo in Kenya to start playing with guys again...guys are searching for you. 1/5/12
mmorrison says:It has been months since I last checked OOB. Guys are not posting shocking scores. Why? To much Kazi? Mikey G, did you lose the hall pass? 1/2/12
mmorrison says:Hey Guys. Hope all is well. I am still trying to find the 1st tee on the Tripoli Country club. 1/2/12
Mike Gebremedhin says:Razi - I heard that you shot the back 9 at Limuru in 2 over par today?? Damn those lessons!! 10/13/11
Mike Gebremedhin says:not so fast dodgy. as an addict, i can enter the course for you. send me the score card and i'll put it in. would LOVE to see an 89 in your game ;). in the meantime, check the amusing comments below from the story on the oobgolf main page on Haas's victory this weekend. I always collect golf shot terms like when you fail to leave a bunker is called an "Adolf". or going from one bunker to another is called a "Saddam Hussein". Bill Haas has inspired one i was thinking of from a bunker into the water we'll call a "Bin Laden". 9/26/11
dodgychipper says:As Oob does not seem to recognise Victoria Golf and Country Resort, Sri Lanka, a very beuatiful course up in the mountains here, I am saved the humiliation of entering my 23 points, approx gross 89 (2 over front nine and then disaster). 9/25/11
dodgychipper says:god i am sliding down that leader board! was in the north of the island this week around some of the mine fields. I was watching one of the automated 'flailing' machines demine a field. Bit like a small combi harvester with lots of chains flailing away at the ground setting off mines. The similarity with Daire's swing was spooky! 9/22/11
mmorrison says:Mikey G. It has been a few days..waiting to see what you post next!!! btw. Daire -3 under on the front ? 9/8/11
Dallas14 says:
I confirm that I witnessed Mikeyg tear the ass out of the front nine at Sigona; 3 birdies in a row. It was upsetting and humbling and I hope never to witness such feats again. 9/5/11
Mike Gebremedhin says:I asked our captain about this and he says that at Sigona, we get relief if the ball is embedded in any area that is mown to fairway height (I guess that's how we define 'closely mown'). 9/5/11
dodgychipper says:p.s. having recently heard the story of why Dallas14 has that 'handle', I was thinking of changing mine to 'Western- Super-Mare22'!! 9/5/11
dodgychipper says:The pro versus amateur thing is always weird. Bit like pro's can tap down spike marks on the greens but amateurs can't -though I see the rule broken at least once a week.Generally at Royal Colombo we have a 'through the green rule'. i think where you have monsoon conditions and brutally heavy rain you must have this local rule. Personally I would always make Mike play the ball as it lies just to upset him. 9/5/11
Marcus Prior says:Mike - played yesterday with a qualified rules official and asked about embedded ball rule. The rule is that it should be played as it lies, if not on a 'closely mown area'. The PGA Tour have for years had a LOCAL RULE allowing embedded balls to be dropped at no penalty through the green. The European Tour followed suit a few years back. However, for our general play, the rule remains no drop if in rough...unless there is a local rule in play stating that there is a free drop, or if you're amongst friends you just agree that you will enforce that local rule.... 9/4/11
Marcus Prior says:R&A have changed to relief from embedded lies 'through the green' - ie same as USGA (and since we played Adare!). Stones in bunkers are only moveable objects under local rules - otherwise they cannot be touched...is my understanding... 9/1/11
Mike Gebremedhin says:you guys get relief on embedded balls pretty much everywhere! and stones as movable objects in bunkers? is that R&A compliant? 9/1/11
Marcus Prior says:Gents, while I would hate to be considered as an anal law-enforcer (moi?), I do think the explanatory videos at this URL are very instructive and may help avoid embarrassment in club competitions or meltdowns in money matches! bkkbwgc.com/rules.html 8/31/11
Marcus Prior says:Some fun and games for a quiet moment. What did the Scotsmman, the Frenchman, the Spaniard and the Indian do for a lark when recently in Scotland... www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncUG2wGouwg 8/1/11
Mike Gebremedhin says:tks for the article, ndadi. i realize now that i should be enraged all the time ;) 7/31/11
Marcus Prior says:Thought this was worth a read... www.oobgolf.com/content/fore+play/1-4965-Lifes_L And I like the line that "Take your time" is a penalty (see comments beneath article) as it is considered to be giving advice... 7/26/11
Marcus Prior says:Dodgy - my home course is on the other side of RSG - Royal Cinque Ports at Deal. If you get a chance, you really should get on. And while you're there, let me know if you see my game, cos I lost it... 7/24/11
dodgychipper says:Markus thank you for the kind words and mike thank you for the word. Just for the record, women find that smell very 'hot'. Haven't played for two weeks while holidaying in UK and Spain but have a social tournament (Invitation Day)at Princes tomorrow, thats the Open qulaifying course literally next to RSGs which you could see in much of the footage. Helped a friend dig a swimming pool out dirt and a fair amount of granite while in spain so my blistered hands will feel good in that cold sea breeze. Swinging the 22lb lump hammer half the day under the spanish sun has left me with a swing very similar to Daire's (you know, rhythmic). I will post the score if I break 90! 7/23/11
Marcus Prior says:A few takeaways from the Open. 1. I think RSG must be up there with Muirfield as the most searching test of links golf on the rotation. 2. ABC apparently live-edited out Clarke tabbing on cigarettes during the final round! 3. US golf is far from dead. 4. Predicting a winner of a golf tournament in the post-Tiger world is a futile exercise. 5. Phil Mickelson will never win another major with his current short putt problems 6. Rickie Fowler is a legend - he played pure links golf...just didnt hole enough putts. 7. Will McIlroy ever have the game to win in bad weather? 8. Tom Watson should be allowed to play the Open until HE CHOOSES to retire. He still has the game and - more importantly - the fans still want to see him. 9. Lee Westwood for the PGA - for the Chubby Slam. 10. We should all be playing more links golf.... 7/18/11
Marcus Prior says:Dodgy - it's ok. I'm group moderator and we've not met, so I've nothing to hold against you that would merit barring you. Lucky man. Good golf is good golf and you are the gold standard right now... 7/11/11
dodgychipper says:Sorry guys I always forget to look at this page. Little bit embarrased to see the leader board with my name on it SIX TIMES (yea, THAT embarrassed). It never lasts long so I am soaking it up while it is Happening. Off to UK and Spain tonight and will be out for 5 weeks. Remember it is all about Rhythm, ask your 'wife', or in the case of our Irish friend......well who knows......if cattle could only talk. 7/10/11
Marcus Prior says:I think our Sri Lanka connection is doing his best to be ready for the Seniors Tour in the not too distant future. His run of scores lately has been scary...congrats, Mr DodgyChipper. 6/7/11
Mike Gebremedhin says:holy cow, our leaderboard is becoming more and more unassailable as the scores edge menacingly below par. our average hcp seems to be going down as well (i'm not contributing there, though). we'll have to have a party when the average goes down into single digits. 6/2/11
mikeharrison says:
Yeah so on my round today I was 12.5 = 13, I put in my excellent 84 and dropped to 12 hcp, changed to the CONGU system and went back up to 12.9... I like it! 5/1/11
Mike Gebremedhin says:Very cool video. Interesting how in going out of their way to lose the par 3 contest, the pros are coming up with some serious shots... 3/28/11
