It's good to see it is warm enough to play in NJ. The weather down here is now perfect, mid-high 70s day after day after day......
The warm weather is helping my game as well. The last 3 scores were 99-98-97. I'll try to remember to post here also. well.Ed

Cal -- congrats on posting your scores. And good to see Ed at the top of the Leaderboard! Try adding Graham to you Friends -- so that he gets copies of your postings. Bill

primetime says:
Interesting morning at Mercer Oaks (slope rating 128 whites) -- Rick Gleim and I played 18 holes in 2hrs 55 minutes / Rick shot at or near his personal best with a 74 / and I equaled my personal best with an 86.
7/7/10

EdMoylan says:
Well done. The hotter it is the better you play!
7/6/10

primetime says:
well -- at 87 this is one over my personal best of 86 -- with 6 greens in regulation which is a record for me. 41 on the front nine at Mattawang with 4 GIRs.

primetime says:
Damn your hide -- you knocked me off me perch! You handicap will definitely come under close inspection by the "committee"

GrahamBrit says:
An amazing game! Still had 2 eights, but everyting else worked well. No more of these or else my handicap will get too low! Off to UK.... play the fairways!
6/25/10

primetime says:
Ed -- my 94 today from the blues at Mercer Oaks West was a leaderboard changer!

primetime says:
Hey Ed: The group is trying to get active again, and Cal would like to set something up so that we can compete against one another -- but he still has computer literate problems (says he can't get on oobgolf). Do you have an alternative suggestion? Bill

primetime says:
have a good week down there. post your scores so that we can see how you are doing. i shot 100 on east yesterday with low temps and high winds. i was giving myself good looks at greens in regulation, so i need to tighten up my chip approach and eliminate 3 putts. generally i am happy with my progress. the scores will come.

EdMoylan says:
Nice score. I had planned on going to Spooky Brook Thursday and then the installer came with some new windows.
I leave for Florida next Sunday, Nov 1, with the car I bought (Odyssey) and look forward to a week of play. They just finished overseeding the fairways and wetting them down for a week. so conditions should be pristine.

primetime says:
ed -- scores looking good. shooting sub 100's and a few strokes above your hdcp. won't be long.

EdMoylan says:
Played the Pine Barrens and shot better than the score indicates. Still need help with the driver, though.
9/29/09

EdMoylan says:
Played a decent round at Rolling Oaks. Driving still the biggest problem, but the short game is keeping me afloat. Back to World Woods tommor to play Pine Barrens where Michelson and Toms played in the Shell Wonderful World of Golf Series. I found out with my card that I can play for $24, including cart. You can't beat the price for a course rated by Golf Digest higher that the Blue Monster and Bay Hill.
Sadly, I need to come home Wednesday.

EdMoylan says:
Progress is really slow. On the range, I was hitting the driver straight, although not long. I then played 18 holes and was all over with the driver. The only saving grace was from 100 yards in and putting I was 'spot on'. Tomorrow it is back to the range. It definitely is in my head.
9/25/09

primetime says:
i know what you are saying. shot a 100 today. we will see what Cal comes up with.

EdMoylan says:
Stuck in a rut!
9/24/09

EdMoylan says:
Yes, Spooky Brook is fine, We also might want to consider Herron Glen as we may only get a few more rounds in as a group before the weather gets very 'iffy'. I have a Somerset card and can make a tee time on line on any of the courses if we can get everybody on the same date. I thought Spooky Brook was 'easy' (wide fairways, not a lot of trouble along them. Only bad thing was the greens were very hard. I hit every green with one of my 4 wedges and each time the ball just ran to the back.). Of course it would help if I could learn to spin the ball a little. My driver is still too eratic. I hope to get some practice in down here. PS. The water in my pool is back up to 88.:)
9/23/09

primetime says:
we have Graham, you, Cal and I who are in the Somerset system. would you like to play Spooky one week as a group?
9/22/09

primetime says:
you have only 14 rds listed??? i would have thought that you would have had more than that. anyway -- when you get to 20 rds, 10 will be used to calc diff.
9/22/09

EdMoylan says:
I have broken the code!
Spooky Brook-$12 - 98
Mercer County $44-111
Souther Woods $0 - 42 (9 holes).
Cheaper is better!
9/22/09

EdMoylan says:
I have 14 rounds listed and 6 are in black
9/22/09

primetime says:
are you sure? go to my game / click on hdcp -- and you should see 20 rounds, of which 10 are highlighted and used to calc the diff. yours is different?
9/21/09

EdMoylan says:
why does mine say the average of 5 lowest scores? No mention of 10.
9/19/09

primetime says:
Ed -- you may know that for the purpose of handicap that you can go to "my game" and click on handicap and it will show you exactly which of the 10 scores of the last 20 were used for the purpose of figuring the differential. Course hdcp multiplier as you know is the slope rating / 113.
9/19/09

primetime says:
your drives were great last week. now you can work on the short game -- which eludes most of us (i figure that my around the green chip shots adds 5 or 6 strokes a round).
9/19/09

EdMoylan says:
OK. I entered the disgusting 111 and it appears that my 'handicap' stayed at 24.7 (ugh). But my scoring average did go from 102.7 to 103.3. I guess I need a a few more 42's. Will try to accomodate next week in Florida.
9/17/09

EdMoylan says:
50! Damn. Your good!
9/4/09

primetime says:
interesting handicap change for Cal this week. his 94 gross lowered his hc -- 22.4 to 20.8. Big chg. Ed and i will be nipping at heels next wk.

EdMoylan says:
Back in NJ and ready for Thursday. The only 'downer' is that my pro at Souther Woods GC is being relocated to the mother ship, at world Woods, a world class course 3 miles away. Instead of being head pro and clubhouse manager at SW, he will work to grow World Woods to a higher level than it is (WW is 13 in FL, Blue Monster is 21, and Bay hill is 23, accoridning to Golf Digest).
8/31/09

EdMoylan says:
The diffrence is hitting balls every morning, since I can pretty much walk to the clubhouse, so have I have no excuse. Plus I know from the lessons what I need to do (get my right hip around and finish high with my hands). I still pull my first 2 drives on the course, but after that the muscle memory kicks in and the drives are pretty predicatble (pretty much a 'power fade' of about 160-yards or so), sometimes a lot better. The big plus is a consistent 150-165 yard hybrid, reasonably straight. Today I had a 2 and 3 on the two par 3s (missed my first hole in one by 2 feet, using the 4 hybrid which I hit 163 yards (I have my GPS). Progress is slow, but at least it is going in the right direction.
8/29/09

primetime says:
my goodness -- a 42 / 84. what happened? did all those lessons kick in big time???
8/29/09

EdMoylan says:
42! I hope I can just come close to 100 in NJ. Only 2 muligans when my hand slipped due to sweat. I figure I need 3 pair of gloves for 18 if I am going to continue to sweat like this. Still, I was firing on all cylinders, both with good drives and better than good hybrids. I don't have decent wedges here or could have done better.
8/29/09

primetime says:
re Spooky -- absolutely. Graham is also a Somerset county player -- and Cal soon to be. Greens are in great shape -- and the course is well drained. Next time i get a t time there i will let you know.
8/26/09

EdMoylan says:
Saw your post about playing Spooky Brook. I used to play there (20+ years ago). In fact, I printed out an application for a county card that I used to have and was going to go up there this week. I got busy and will go when I get back Monday from Florida. Let me know if you wnat ot play there sometime.

primetime says:
Ed -- shot a 90 on West with the group (rained like hell on the last 3 holes) -- and this has had a further impact on my index -- lowering it from 17.3 to 16.8. All i know is that i am cruising for a bruising in this rare air.
8/13/09

EdMoylan says:
All good things come to an end. I am heading home later today. The one lesson I had from the pro turned out to be very good. He correctly diagnosed my "not closing my wrists (and consequent slicing) to a failure to clear my right side. I hit balls every day and this morning was hitting them very far and pretty much straight. Last night I played my usual 9 holes and was in the fairway on every drive, a definite improvement. We'll see if this works in New Jersey.
Hope springs eternal.
8/12/09

primetime says:
Ed - played East today with Sheffield -- who insists on shooting from the blues. shot a 92 which brought my index further down from 17.8 to 17.3. i do not think i belong there -- rather in the 18's. but it is new territory nevertheless.
8/11/09

primetime says:
i know it. it might be a great metric to work on as a group. have to keep an eye on that.
8/8/09

EdMoylan says:
I note the average handicap listed above for the group, 24.1. This leaves room for lots of improvement!
8/8/09

primetime says:
sounds like you have made some significant changes under the good eye of your pro. I played at Mitideconk and couldn't get anything going. Shot 108 or some such. it was a tough outing. a lot of trouble hitting the fairway, among other things. Looks like Cal struggled a little at Mercer with 101 Friday.
8/8/09

EdMoylan says:
Update:
I just returned from the range where I was hitting everyhting "high and hard" and "pretty straight". The pro is taking pity on me and giving me free balls. I think he may have confused me with Charles Barkley!. I did identify a few issues that may have caused my poor driving last night. We will see if there is improvement tonight (It is too hot to walk the course before 6:30 or so)
8/8/09

EdMoylan says:
The good news. The water in my pool is 89 degrees.
One lesson down and more to go. Its amazing how well I hit the ball with the pro watching me, compared to when I go out on the course myself later. I guess I just need to bring him up to NJ with me. He did identify some small problems with my swing, although he felt overall, setup etc was fine. I guess it is just going to take a lot of work on the range.
8/8/09

EdMoylan says:
Sounds like a plan!
8/4/09

primetime says:
by my calc -- i think that Cal came away the net winner this week. just a suggestion but to make it interesting i suggest that the previous week winner does not have to pay for his after game beer (at Mercer Oaks). what do you think?
8/4/09

primetime says:
the score does not tell the whole story. had a lot of tree grabbers, etc. But i was hitting them fairly long -- like on the 17th i drove the creek by a good amount -- the long way (to the left). Cal found water. We had a pact going into the hole that we were going to drive the creek. Yes, on the 18th i did lose a ball rough left. Scores for myself / Cal / Graham -- 105 / 109 / 109. Slow round of 5 hrs did not help.
7/16/09

EdMoylan says:
Wow. You had an off day. Is Mattawang really that tough? Let me guess. The 18th did you in..again :)
Ed

primetime says:
Played Southmoore near Bath PA with a friend -- very tight fairways / difficult greens -- and shot a 54 on the front / 45 on the back. With my new handicap of 18.3 -- this hurt me big time by dropping me to 3rd on the leaderboard based on most recent games played. At some point we may wish to use a monthly average (which is a leaderboard option), rather than latest games played to make changes more gradual. Bill

cal heitzmann says:
Success. Cal gave me his UN and PW and your suggestion about the function to 'join a group' worked! He is now one of the Princeton Players.
Good job!
